Advanced Human Factors and Research Analysis

December 7 - December 11
$1,200.00

Join our premier 5-day live, virtual course in forensic human-factors training. Taught by Dr. Jeffrey Muttart, known as the top expert in the field, our advanced program is the gold standard in driver-response and human-factors instruction.

This intensive, 35-hour, graduate-level course condenses 160 years of research into a structured, fast-paced virtual week designed for professionals who must analyze and defend the most complex crash scenarios. Attendees leave with the scientific grounding, specialized tools, and analytical precision needed to operate confidently at the highest expert-witness level.

What You Will Learn

This course focuses on advanced concepts and the underlying research required for defensible testimony and opinion writing:

  • Hazard Anticipation & Threat Recognition: In-depth analysis of glance research and the factors that govern early threat identification.
  • Driver Speed Adaptation: Understanding speed choice patterns, driver behavior in curves, and the science of speed adaptation.
  • Lane-Keeping Behavior: Analysis of steering entropy, stability metrics, and the mechanisms of lane excursion.
  • Pedestrian Behavior Modeling: Advanced understanding of walking speeds, approach behavior, and complex pedestrian timing scenarios.
  • Vehicle Dynamics: Advanced modeling of vehicle acceleration rates and the science behind driver gap-acceptance thresholds.
  • Nighttime Visibility: Detailed analysis of recognition distances, low-light visibility factors, and glare assessment.
  • Perception-Response Times (PRT): Comprehensive study of PRT and all scientific factors that increase, decrease, or complicate its application.
  • Driver Decision-Making: Critical research on a driver’s willingness (or lack thereof) to pull into traffic from stop signs or yield situations.

Core Modules (Estimated 40 Hour Breakdown)

The course is divided into focused, high-intensity modules to maximize knowledge retention and practical application:

Module Duration Focus Area
Research Methods & Validity 6 hours Evaluating scientific literature and defending methodologies in court.
Lead-Vehicle & Angular Crash Scenarios 4 hours Advanced application of human factors in rear-end and oblique crashes.
Nighttime Visibility & Forensic Documentation 6 hours Lighting calculation, documentation techniques, and low-light scene analysis.
Advanced PRT Analysis 6 hours Deconstructing PRT across all crash types, including complex decision PRT.
RESPONSE® Software Integration 4 hours Hands-on training with specialized human-factors analysis software (if applicable).
Distraction, Impairment, & Fatigue 4 hours Analysis of decision-making errors and the advanced scientific effects of performance degraders.
Remaining Hours 10 hours Dedicated to Q&A, Case Studies, and Final Practicum.

Who Should Attend

This is a course strictly for experts who testify, write opinions, and require a defensible scientific methodology to support their findings in complex litigation.
